Received her medical degree from the University of Copenhagen. Trained in general surgery at the University Clinics in Copenhagen, Denmark, before she moved to Munich to specialize in plastic and aesthetic surgery. At the Klinikum Bogenhausen, she had the opportunity to train with some of Europe's best plastic surgeons. Since 2001, she is a board certified specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery.

Prof. Dr. med. Holm Mühlbauer has written and published numerous articles and book chapters focusing on several aspects of plastic and aesthetic surgery. She has written on topics such as wound healing, burn resuscitation, autologous breast reconstruction, flap perfusion, reconstructive microsurgery, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and facelifts.

Since 2009 she works in private practice. She is a member of the German Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (DGPRÄC), the European Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESPRAS), the International Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS), the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) and the national non-profit organization Interplast Germany.

Trained at the University Clinics in Denver, Colorado, USA and at Klinikum Rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich to become a specialist in general surgery. He specialized in Plastic Surgery under Prof. Dr. U.Schmidt-Tintemann and was appointed Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University Munich. From 1984 through 2003 he served as head of the department of Plastic and Hand Surgery, Burn Center of Klinikum Bogenhausen in Munich. Since 2003 he works in private practice. He is considered one of the most prominent plastic surgeons of Germany and Europe with outstanding international reputation. In 2005 he was awarded with the "Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande" by Horst Köhler, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, for his extraordinary achievements.
